I'm back...
I had looked forward to spending time on the road with my 1996 Heritage after I retired. Shortly after I retired, my right wrist started hurting badly. After living with it a while, I got a cortisone shot and started therapy. That all helped, but it was a year before it quit hurting. I took one 15 mile ride, but with a bad wrist, it just didn't work. Then last summer, one morning my right leg had an ache. Within an hour, I couldn't walk. Got an x-ray, and the doctor said it was osteo arthritis. Got another cortisone shot, which helped, but it is still swollen and sore.
I've seen too many people retire and then die a year later. So, We joined Planet Fitness last January and started to do weight training with the aim being getting back on the bike by spring. I bought a Trike in February of 2018, but found out that just didn't do it for me.
So, long story short, I finally felt strong enough to get back on the Heritage (I'm almost 70, 135 lbs, and 5'5") so a couple of weeks ago my daughter and SIL came over to help with the canning. They ride a 2018 Ultra and put a lot of miles on it. So I told my SIL that I was thinking I'm strong enough to get back on the bike. After we finished our chores, Jon said "Get your gear, we're going". We took about a 15 mile ride and while I'm a little wobbly and unsure, I did fine.
All this to say, I think I'm back in the saddle again, and glad of it. Special thanks to my SIL, Jon, for getting the bike ready again and riding it enough to keep things in order. (he really loves my bike). He's a big boy and that hopped up Evo is like riding a sport bike to him.
And, it good to be back and seeing some familiar names again.
