Default Gas tank question

These chrome gas cap “things. Need to pull them off. Do they unscrew, are they siliconed on or both.

While I haven't seen anything like that before it looks like you'd need a pin wrench to take it off.

It looks something like that Kury bung gas cap filler adapter. You might want to try 3M grey or black doublesided tape and stick it to a flat plate to wrench it off. Might be left handed as well.

Those are threaded. They came with a spanner wrench to fit the notches. Used to install and remove.

Right and left handed on twin tanks. Which ever thread on cap is thread on insert.

After work I'll pick up some dbl thick tape for a large round set of channel locks I have.

If I had to list the stock items on this bike, according to the service manual and parts manual, the list would be

Frame
Tranny
Primary
most of the Engine
most of the wire harness

That's it. The guy I bought this bike from told me his wife owned it and she passed a few years back. With the damage I found on the bottom of the outer primary cover, the entire front, tanks, forward controls and rear fender are aftermarket, I keep thinking this bike has been in a few skirmishes.

"Paint Saver" type gas caps.
As previously mentioned they come with a spanner tool to install/remove.
I have the tool.

wrapped some sticky tape around and they came out easy. The left tank has bondo bubbling at the filler neck and there was pipe thread tape on the bung threads. The gasket on the bung was shot to hell.

Those type of caps are designed to cover paint damage.

scraped, sanded and wire wheeled all the bondo out. Wiped down with alcohol then put on some jb weld.

I think I would look for new or gently used tanks. You can often find them on eBay with the paint still good.
