Hey all, I just installed an new all ***** starter but can't figure out how to mount it to tranny w/the old mount.Went to the local hardware to purchase longer than 4" m5 bolts but nobody has them.I was gonna fab up a cross bracket to mount to the old one.Any suggestions?
Fastenal has a few locations on Long Island. You can order all sorts of fasteners via their website (or go to their store) and pickup your fastener.

I thought I read somewhere that when you run one of those all ***** starters you should use heavier duty battery cables. Did you install larger cables?
For longer bolts, try McMaster Carr online. If they don't have it , you don't need it.

Yeah, I left it off. That's what I said, above. I remember now that it didn't fit on the new one, so I left it off. The new starter is smaller than the old one anyway. No problems without that bracket.
ok, thanks for getting back
Don. Are you talking about the bolts that attach the starter motor to the starter housing? What is the original motor, Hitachi? and what are the old bolts 12-24? What are the new bolts size.. I'm trying to get an idea without pics. I had to modify my starter on my shovel that was a Hitachi but went with a Prestolite. There Prestolite had has different mounting bolts than the Hitachi.
