I use an old axle in a vice to set the shim clearance, mag base test indicator, and without grease. Timken brand bearings.

I have no idea about grease, I've always used Green Grease.

All ***** bearings suck. I had a set ruin on me inbetween 1 tire change. Go with OEM or TImkens and clean, inspect, and repack everytime you put on a tire. I like Lucas Red and Tacky #2 but I think the important thing is to simply clean and regrease every time.
