On the left fitting pictured, I have no old hardware in my bin of removed parts that would go to that fitting, no notes, and no idea. This tank is aftermarket and on a stock it has a continuous vent going to a valve, but it's located on top. So my question is, what is my game plan before I do a final mount. I'm thinking I should blow some air in it to see where it goes to.
Second question on these tanks. I am not putting those two piece bungs and caps back on, not going for the pop up cap either, but I would like to get a set of gloss black regular caps. J & P cycles is the only ones that might have a supplier but for the last 3 months their web page has said "currently out of stock". The only other caps out there have flames or skulls or Live to Ride. All black and chrome. Tons of chrome dual caps but no basic black.

The front fitting is for your crossover tube and the rear is a vent.
All you need is the right size fuel line and a couple of clamps.
That said I recommend putting a quick disconnect in your crossover line.
My 94 flat side split tank doesn’t have that small tube. My vent is located on the inside top of the left side tank.
Are you sure you don't mean right?
Granted I haven't seen one positioned there bent like that butI have seen aftermarket tanks that had the vent coming out the bottom of the tank but they were straight.

On both tanks at the flat side facing each other is a fitting. I have a 5" clear tube that connects the tanks and with one of the gas caps vented I would imagine both tanks get vented.

Are we talking a quick connect like on an air hose or something like a compression union where one side is reverse threaded.
It was bugging me so I went out to blow some air in the left side bottom tube and the air only came out of the tube inside the cap area. An overflow.
The PO had nothing running from this line. Any overflow would drip on top of the engine. Time for a mod.
That is not an overflow that is a vent that allows air into the tank so that as you use it there isn't a vacuum created stopping the flow of fuel to the carb.

That crossover tube allows air to pass from one tank to the other.

They say the right side cap if vented but if you pinch that vent tube or the hose coming off it I promise that you ain't gonna go far until your bike shuts down due to lack of fuel.
