Default Stock Antidive VS Intiminator

I'm currently rebuilding the front end on my 1990 FLHS. There is an active lengthy thread about rebuilding the stock Harley anti-dive system (didn't want to hijack that thread). Mine stock air system is still installed but probably not working or holding air (haven't even looked at it). I was planning to go with a set of Race Tech springs and Ricor Intiminators and block off the stock front air system. Would I be just as far ahead to skip the Intiminators and rebuild the stock air system or are the Intiminators an upgrade from the stock system? If they're not an improvement over stock I'd just as soon save the $180.

Thanks.

Frank

When I rebuilt my 89's front end I went with racetech emulators and springs, ditching the air system. It took me a few weeks of riding and adjusting to get the emulators "set" for my riding needs. It was LIGHT YEARS AHEAD of the stock suspension, but I also did the CCE kit with a late swingarm also.

I have Emulators in my Sporty and don't detect any worthwhile benefit, so can't recommend them. However I have used Intiminators in my Glide and they were worthwhile, so they would be my suggestion. I did however retain my air system, which has never given any trouble.

I have the Ricor Intiminators and Progressive springs in my 09' Fatboy, money wasted as far as I'm concerned.
Felt no difference over stock setup. Tried different weights of Bel-Ray fork oil along the way and not much difference.

Several years back I got the Progressive springs and Ricor Intiminators. It was a handling improvement over the stock springs/anti-dive, but I was never happy with the somewhat rough ride. A couple of years ago I switched to the Race Tech single rate springs with the Race Tech emulators. This was what I should have done in the first place -- the handling was just as good if not better than with the Progressives, and the ride was much improved over either the stock springs/anti-dive or the Progressive/Ricor combo. And eliminating the air system greatly simplifies things under the fairing.

It's interesting that between us we have had quite different experiences with the two brands of add-in damper valves! A pal of mine has Emulators in his XL1200R and is very happy with them, which is why I fitted them to our SuperLow - in which they have been a waste of money. And the 'instructions' for adjusting each of them may as well be written in a lost ancient foreign language. Fortunately at the time I bought my Intiminators member fabik8r was around to tune them for us and get the 'just so'. Ah well....
