standard motor products makes a lot of parts for our bikes that are getting hard to get and are very reasonably priced.. I currently use their pickup plates down in the nose cone of both my shovel and my Evo. Been using them for years never a failure. Coils are responsible as well.. like $80.. https://www.pageturnpro.com/Four-Sea.../0/mindex.html
There's like 32 pages of parts in the link..

Good job...and thanks for the link... I always do **** the hard way!!!!!
My experience with any type of electric switch (limit switch, relay, starter, contactor, light wall switch... anything with contacts) is that they either work or they don't,.... but then again it might not work this time and work again next time. Intermittent. Contacts corrode. They stick. A bump or temp change might cause it to free up and change to the position it is supposed to be in, but isn't. Will a VOES do this? I can't swear to it, but I would bet on it.
Of course, there is still the vacuum part of it also. I assume that that would be a constant either sealed and working or torn and broke thing, but who knows.... not me.
The VOES is most likely to fail in the "retard" position, and the most noticeable symptom is a sudden drop in idle speed. That said, I did have a switch fail in the closed or "advance" position. That caused the engine to detonate on acceleration. So, I guess either failure is possible because I've experienced both.

True Dat... failing open would also decrease the gas mileage...

True, but thats a bit harder to spot right away. The drop in idle speed is immediate and hard to miss. Idle speed will drop from 1000 RPM to about 600 RPM.
