Default Little motor work question

I have a 1987 flhs. It has a base gasket leak so I figured it get it fixed. Since I'm going to have the top side torn down I figure I'll do the cam and bearings as well. Going with an andrew ev27 for the cam. New lifters and adjustable rods. I'll also check heads for trueness. I was thinking about changing the ignition as well. Is there anything else I should be looking into to replace on these 80" evos? Also right now the bike has a super b carb, I know it's a low end roll on carb but I would like better throttle response. Would it be worth going to a super e or a mukini?

Put the CV back
with K&N filter and a tune, it is great
dont see need for adjustable pushrods, especially if taking top end off
I generally jut do a down and dirty base gasket refresh, and right back together!!

I bought it with the super b on it. It's got close to 60k on it and p.o. said the gentleman he got it from had some motor work done so I would like to get in and see what's been done and how it was done.

With that big a bike I'd suggest you go with a 13.
As for the carb thing if you like what you have why change it?
While Mikuni is supposed to be top of the line for street carbs I prefer the S&S E for its simplicity of design and the fact it bolts to the intake.JMO

Not a fan of the super b. Super simple carb, but theres times when you need to give it a little more then just a roll on and it hiccups. The old lady did say that once I got a tour pack she would go for rides so a 13 would probably be a better choice. Mukini carbs are relatively simple little more fine adjustments but I have a small engine background so I dont find carbs to hard to work on.

Agree with Mike on the ev13 but I wouldn't do anything till you take a look at the cam that it's in there. You said the PO did some motor work.. Second tear it apart and see what you have to go from there.. If there was any previous work to the heads to match a cmn and riding style you could just be going in the wrong direction.. FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS A COMPRESSION TEST before you tear it down. That as well will tell a little something about your current build..

Also forgot to mention the B it's a great carb, just doesn't have an accelerator pump.. Usually an 80"er fited with an S&S B will have nice upgrades already by an old schooler... Best bet would be an S&S E carb. It'll take the hiccup out.. Did you look to see what ignition you have?
Also what pipes do you have..

Its stock down pipes, then I picked up some rhineharts. I just got my new comp gauge so I once it warms up I'll do a comp test.

As commented on above, you may have a decent upgrade already, so establishing what you currently have is essential before 'we' get to do further mods! By the way, we do love to help other members spend their money, so we are looking forward to learning more and just what our starting point is!

EV27 needs a compression bump in a bagger, EV13 hits harder down low like Hotrod mentioned, the EV27 will work and carry deeper into the rpm's but will need the rpm's up a little higher requiring more frequent down shifts, comes back to your riding style.

Carbs: CV is pretty much universal that covers all area, Mikuni 42 has better throttle response with a slight slight edge in performance but not worth a argument, S&S works and have a Ultima S&S clone taming a finicky engine so it's still personal choice on your carb. If you like the old school S&S tear drop air cleaner makes your decision.
If you go with a Mikuni, research the Joe Minton mileage kit, as Joe is the author of Mikuni's tuning guide and the items in his mileage kit works and he explains why.
