Default Fuel Gauge

1988 FLHS but that doesn't matter because it has a 96 Road King tank. The gas gauge lamp went out so I pulled the gauge to see whats up. Bulb was fine but the printed on traces that the bulb holder twists into and contacts has mostly eroded away. Tried to solder tiny wire to the bulb holder but the tab is just too tiny. So, I'm looking for a replacement , PN 75049-88. Checked ebay and some of the used parts sites and damn! You can get a brand new later model gauge for as little as $20, but the only two I found that were compatable with my sending unit looked questionable, either the traces are worn away or they're all scratched up and dented, and they want $80 or more!
My questions are these: 1, anyone have a nice one they want to sell? 2, without changing my sending unit would any later models be adaptable? thanks, Mike

Can you post a pic of what your dealing with? I rebuild and restore vintage stereos as a hobby. I have come across my fair share of bad traces on circuit boards (usually they are fried from a short). Might be able to give you a few tips, but would like to see what your dealing with. YD

Got it fixed and working good. Just needed to get a pointy tip for my soldering gun and steady my shaky old hands.
