Default I Think This Wheel Is Trash...

Well I have a 91 electra glide I've been messing with. I noticed the rear end felt alittle loose (bad bearings) and when I tore it down, man its ugly. So I think I need a new wheel as the hub is gouged up inside pretty bad. Let me know whatcha think.

My life is worth WAY more than the cost of a wheel. I'd pitch it.

If you can replace the races I don't see why you can't use the wheel.
The part that's beat up isn't all that important.

That said if you find a crack then yeah replace it.

I guess I don't see the problem. The only area that carries any load is the part where the races press into the hub.

My hunch is somewhere along the line someone replaced the races and made a hash of things getting the old ones out. Also looks like some witness marks from some sloppy seal removals along the way as well.

Always comes down to budget. If you're trying to get this bike on the road for cheap, and if you pull the current races and things look good underneath them, I don't see any reason not to run it. But if you don't mind spending the $$$, there are certainly better looking wheels out there.

^^^Yup I would clean it up and check for cracks, if it doesn't have any cracks I'd run it. You could use it for an excuse to upgrade to a late model swingarm and wheel though to the wife....lol

Well if I can run it great. I was supposed to be taking the bike to Tampa Monday (about 2 hours away) and that rear end is the only thing stopping me. Now if I can just find the parts and tools locally to get the job done over the weekend.

I agree, inspect closely, then it it passes inspection, new bearings, new races and seals, set bearing end play per the manual. Use a high quality grease. YD
