getting ready to get my motor put back together and just wanted to know how many have painted there motors and how many have powder coated them .whats pros and cons of the powder coat ? Do you think it would hold more heat in the motor ? thanks for your input
Paint it.
Powder coating is kinda a PITA and requires much more time and trouble to get it right on a motor.
Painting lasts a long time and is much easier.
i did a lot of powder coating on my bike but painted the engine... like THC above said, it's a pain in the *** to get everything clean and prepped for a nice job. also you can touch up paint if something happens to it
Well, they say chrome holds in heat so I imagine paint would too and on an air-cooled motor I don't know if you really want that... But to reach their own...
VHT black wrinkle coat holds up well, found out lighter coats work, more the paint applied, the more it wrinkles. Brake clean the area, let dry and light coats until texture suits you. As far as holding heat, not really going to matter which coating you use unless your over 10.2-1 compression you'll be fine, just make sure the engine is tuned properly.

Vincent motorcycles used to paint their entire engines black, back in the 1950s, when there was nothing faster! So I suspect that may not be true.....
im not the one that's gonna do the powder coat got a hell of a deal on it all I did was glass bead the motor so all the old paint was striped off of it and the motor is all tore apart for the rebuild all ready
