Consider review of what has been shared.
Just noticed reference to kilometers so this is a cold weather bike with probable salt road exposure.
Make sure to clean the idle control motor shaft and linkages too.
The engine temp sensor would be a main suspect with idle control motor as second most probable so it needs to be reviewed.

whoa there.

How 'bout checking fault codes to see if he's thrown a 14 or not? we might save this guy a Benjamin.

OP: Look up how to retrieve fault codes for EVO Fuel injected harleys. Should be instructions or a youtube video out there. It's also in the HD service manual. Basically, you turn the on/off switch as follows: ON/OFF ON/OFF ON. Then you wait and count the number of flashes that it gives you. Little bit more to it than that so look it up.
