Hello! Like the title says I’m new here and fairly new to the HD owners world. I’ve ridden a bunch of em but never owned one until two weeks ago. I’m sure I’ll have a lot of questions for you guys. Long story short, my dad passed away a few years ago suddenly. No will was ever written so my step mother decided my younger half brother should have our dads 98 road king classic. Not gonna lie, I was salty about it. Considering I painted the bike 10 years ago, I can actually work on it as I am a body tech and have been working on things all my life lol. Either way I got in touch with my little brother after years of not speaking and he still had dads bike. Told me 2k and I could have it. So within about 15 mins we were on the road trailer in tow. Got there and little brother and step mother let the bike sit outside for the last few years. Bike is in bad shape. Not running, seat and bags wasted, tires dry rotted, fender wrecked, the tank I had painted was gone and a spray painted one sat in its place. I was over run with anger, disappointment, and excitement.
Ive built numerous custom cars and trucks and when I painted this bike years ago I wanted to go wild with it and my dad wanted me to he just didn’t have the finances to cut me loose ordering parts and mate
rial because of course the labor was free and I couldn’t do it due to just starting my own shop. We talked bags and dashes and stretching fenders (I actually stretched the front about 3 inches and ditching the chrome bumper on the bottom back then) So now I have a chance to no only resurrect this thing but to build the bad *** sled we both wanted to back then. Sorry for the book, just wanted to introduce myself and tell the story before I start a build thread.
That’s a shame that he neglected your dads bike. To me, it shows little respect. But now you have the opportunity to bring it back to its glory, and you’ll enjoy it even more. Good luck with the build

My words exactly.. Shame on them...... Good luck....
Welcome to HDF from the UK. Look forward to how your project turns out. Don't go too radical - we're a sensitive lot in here!!!!
nothing too wild, thinking 21” front wheel, single rotor, down and out bags, apes, getting rid of a lot of the chrome. New paint. He was in love with that green. It was our biggest point of contention when I painted it. So I’ll have to use it at least as an accent color
Make your Dad proud of his old bike on Father's Day and proud of the man you've grown to be ... That is just a flat out shame. We'd enjoy posting pic as you rebuilt it to it's former glory, the threads are fun to read, this group will be very helpful with guidance and sometimes parts. Welcome to the Evo section it's a great group of guys always willing to help.
That sucks, and is great at the same time. I'm sure your dad would have wanted you to have it in the first place. Have fun rebuilding it....that's half the experience to start with. You'll love the RK, most versatile bike Harley makes. You can dress'um up or ride'um naked....or anywhere in between.

And welcome to the addiction!
thanks man. One thing I’ve learned so far when it comes to these bike... if you can’t do it yourself you better have deep pockets lol. Coming from the hot rod and custom truck scene it blows my mind how expensive some of the parts for this bike are. Lucky for me my brother in law was an hd mechanic for 10 years and my ol lady is super supportive. I have a Polaris atv that’s a big money pit as well lol
