Default 1996 Softail Custom Ignition

I am looking at a 1996 Softail Custom. It has a carburetor. Is there igntion components in the cone (timer, etc), or is there a Crank Position Sensor like a Twin Cam? I was looking at parts for a 1996 Softail Custom and the first part listed was a Crank Position Sensor??? I had old bikes with points and my 1984 had electronic in the nose. I have a 2006 FXSTI currently. I never had an EVO. The point cover had rivets. I didn't look for a Crank Position Sensor on the bike.

96 Should have an electronic cam position sensor in the nose cone that plugs into an ignition module (if it is stock). Not aware of any carbed bikes with a crank sensor.

Does this bike run? If the cover on the nose-cone has rivets, then it is either bone stock behind it, or it has probably been H-D serviced, or had a very rigorous PO! Why do you ask and what would you like from us?!

The bike runs great; I test drove it. It is a one owner machine. It handles poorly. The dealer is going to check into it. I test drove it before they serviced it. You all have given me what I wanted to know. It has a Cam Positioning Sensor in the cone. It saves me riding up there to see if it had a Crank Position Sensor. I can at least tinker on the bike without worrying about Dyn Tunes, modified ECM's, etc.

The whole deal was I was looking at a parts website for a 1996 Softail and the first part shown was a Crank Position Sensor. I may trade my 2006 Twin Cam FXSTI in on it, but not if the 1996 has a Crank Position Sensor. My bike runs great and is very reliable. It makes you lazy as all you do is turn it on and hit the button and you are off, but I am not independant on it. If the electrics go haywire I need the Dealer. I can pretty much fix an older bike enough to at least get home. Thanks to all. I may drive up there and take a look at it anyways! I just got back from a morning 150 miler with a friend.
