Default Lowering 84 Softail

Hy,

I was thinking about lowering the back of my 84 Softail.
It still has the original suspension. I found the kit on the picture. It says that it's for a 84 Softail, but how can I put it on? I don't think the shocks have thread?
What do you think?
The kit

The original

I think you would do better if you can find some adjustable shocks to put under there instead of that kit.
JMO
I think Mid USA has some for your bike.

Do Not put those extensions in as a lowering kit...
yes it will be lower,,, but, the suspension will still be at it's softest tho the "swing arm" is closer to the Bottom... gonna cause the bike to Slam into the "stops" or bottom out... Jarring the **** out of ya... I have extended the Suspension, and put a Collar under the end...thereby lowering and Putting the suspension back into "play"... PITA... Best to go with a Custom longer shock!!! Like THC is saying..

If a 1984 bike is still running those original reservoir shocks it is probably time to change them. Get a pair of adjustables rather than band-aiding what might be a nearly worn out or worn out original set.

I was thinking to replace them, but they are actually in pretty good condition.
I will eventually replace them with these:

Those shocks are crap...but are currently the only shocks manufactured that will fit an 84-88 softail...and you can lower the bike with them...

The only viable solution is to modify the bike to use 89-99 shocks...89-99 shocks will bolt on an 84 ...but hit the trans mount at full travel...

You would need to disassemble an 89-99 shock and remove the spring...so you can move the swingarm though full travel on a jack to determine what needs to be modified...

I bet you would only have to change the shock mount on the swingarm a few degrees to make it work ...but haven't verified...
