you should have had resistance when you moved the cable with your fingers ... as HotRod said, make sure the ***** are in the ramp where they should be ... also redo the adjustment under the derby cover ... you can do this
You guys are getting me motivated! I'm gonna work for a couple hours after work tonight. Hopefully I can get the exhaust ripped apart and the side cover off. Gonna have to get the Allman Bros live at the filmore loaded into the tune box!
By the time I'm finished with work, all the shops will be closed, you guys ever reuse the transmission side cover gaskets?
Beemer- your gremlin looks like me after failing at this yesterday!
Actually I have reused the side cover gasket.. The nice thing too about doing this job is that you do it on the jiffy stand and you really don't get any leakage..
I also have a can of copper spray where I've actually reused head gaskets and never had any issues......
And Beemer, I think that gremlin would look cool as hell as a patch on the back of a vest...
In fact I bet Omaha could do that for us like he did the Evo t-shirts, remember?

tore it all apart. The ball and ramp were exactly correct, I pulled the side cover with the cable and set it on the bench and it appears the cable is FUBAR’d. It looks like where the cable goes into the adjustment barrel, it’s broken. The stainless cover slid about 2 inches up the cable and the rubber underneath looks like it’s twisting inside. Anyone know the length os a factory ‘01 road king cable?
When I measured the one it took off it shows between 66 and 67 inches from eyelet to the Ferrell that goes into the ball and ramp

If you're using stock length Barnett will be able to tell you how long it should be.
Ok. I found a chart from the Moco that shows what cables to use for the bars I bought. It says to use the standard size cables. I called Barnett and ordered the proper cable. My next question is: the fsm says to run the cable starting at the lever then back to the the trans. Seems like it would be easier to start at the trans side cover and work fwd. Any thoughts?
