i Just changed bars on my road king. Im running into issues with the clutch cable. I hooked it up to the same lever on the new bars after re-routing it, and now there is not enough adjustment to take up the slack.
I thought maybe it came off off the ball and ramp, but I pulled the side cover and all seems well. I adjusted the clutch to the specs in the manual and started adjusting the clutch cable again. The lever moved away from the grip - I thought I was making progress and squeezed the lever, but it didnt engage the clutch and just pulled more cable out of the cable housing
its an 01 road king, the same clutch set up that was on my 98 ultra.
I'm using the same cable that was on the bike (only unhooked it from the lever) . When I first hooked it up to the lever it worked fine, but I had to take the cable back out of the lever because it was run underneath the motor and not in front, like it should be and was too short. When I put it back together there is just too much slack for the adjuster on the cable to take us.
Clutches are my Nemesis. When I took the side cover off, the clutch cable is hooked in and everything rotates on the ball and ramp. I'm at a loss
If it's the same cable, It either stretched or you did something wrong at the primary adjuster.
I didn't get into the primary until I realized that the I couldn't get enough adjustment out of the cable.
If I push the eyelet on the cable (where it attaches to the lever) it will more the ball and ramp assembly with no resistance (should there be resistance?). Can the ball and ramp be an issue if the clip was never removed?
I can't imagine that the cable stretched over and inch. It's a Barnett ss braided cable. Can the route of the clutch cable make a difference?
It's got to be in the ball and ramp, I would take it apart and make sure none of the ***** fell out of their slots in the ramps... That's where I would start That's the only possibility..
Thanks everyone. I'll be back at it tonight. I'll fill ya in once I get it straightened out. Did I mention how much I dislike working with clutch issues?!!!
