Hello. I bought a 1997 road king a year ago. I ran fine when I brought it home. Fast forward a year and after shoulder surgery, and working out of town, haven’t had time or been able to ride. Doctor cleared me to ride and I’m home for a few days. The battery died, so I replaced it, now it tried to turn over, but won’t. The fuel switch was left on, and now it won’t turn over.
It seems like it may be flooded. I don’t want to take it to a shop, hopefully, it’s kind of easy fix. Any advice. Is appreciated.
What does it do, just click? If so, there is a lot of good info in the sticky thread on the dreaded click
im sorry. I didn’t explain the situation worth a crap. New battery, turn on, push button, it tries to crank, but doesn’t start,it makes noise , maybe flooded? I accidentally left the fuel switch on instead of turning it off. It does not make a clicking sound. Hope that helps. I’ll try to make a video tomorrow.
EFI or Cab? In both cases, drain the tank as 98hotrodfatboy said, if it is carb, remove the flotter cap, so you can drain the cab as well (and see if there is moisture in the flotter). Reassemble, new petrol, then Full choke, 2 turns on the trottle, and then try to start again.
Yes to the bad fuel, in addition, even though the battery is new, did you charge it before installing? You should slow charge a new battery overnight before using. This is usually in the instructions or a note included with the new battery.
