Default Mikuni carb fuel hose fitting problem

Hi guys, I have a Mikuni 42 carb fitted to my '96 heritage softsil by the PO. I have absolutely no idea how they managed to fit the petcock to carb fuel hose onto the carb end, because it has a significantly larger fitting at the carb than the petcock. 6mm vs 8mm (off my vernier calipers).
I have new fuel hose that fits the petcock end, but there's no way it's going to go over the fitting on the carb.... How do you guys suggest I get around this?

I've already re-installed the carb which makes pushing hard on the hose/ fitting difficult.
thanks for any tips.

This is a good way and might add a little dish washing soap as well

+1 on the hot water and soap.

If you're still struggling with it, pull the carb and attach the hose to the inlet nipple first. Then snake it through to attach to the petcock.

I was taught by a graybeard that when sliding two parts together that will be a tough, tight, fit, to spit on the parts and smear that around. The spit just kind of goes away. I'd be a little worried about where that soap is gonna end up.

use 5/16" line and a Pingle petcock of the same size....that's what I did. when you stretch 1/4" line like that it has a tendency to crack earlier in my experience. just my $.02

Thanks, this is what had happened to the old pipe that I removed. It was stock 1/4" hose that had been squeezed on to the Mikuni fitting and by the time I got to pulling it off during disassembly it had cracked and perished pretty bad.

Although I didn't want to have to replace the petcock, short on $$ and I just bought a new internal filter for the stock petcock 😖

ok thanks, I'll have to remover the a/c backing plate and remove the carb and try the boiling water trick.

A stock petcock will accept 5/16" fuel just fine without leaks. That's all I've ever used on any of them with the updated inlet elbow on a CV.
