This is my OPINION:

- not a fan of that model, ugly as sin with the windshield off
- also not a fan of the models with the battery taking up half of the right saddle bag

These are both aesthetic things

Price seems high to me for what it is. I know you are not looking at Twin Cams, but two friends this summer bought '05 and '06 Road Kings with way less miles than this bike for $5k. So to go back 15 years and up 30k miles, add in the aesthetic issues noted above, I think not the bike for me. Again, OPINION.

I would look for a later 90's Evo Road King, all the looks and longevity without the noted disadvantages. And I still would be looking to pay no more than $5k, and then she better be a garage queen. I believe the later the better with the Evo's so yeh a '94 to '98 would be what I would searching for on the web.

Good luck

I'm certainly not an expert but I just bought a 94 Road King and was also looking at FLHS bikes too. If it looks good and runs good then 3995 is worth it. Thats a lower price than most that I found online. We're lucky to be in a position to buy a bike when prices are so low.

It is true that the bike has a front end that only a mother could love, but it is one of the things I like about the bike. The Road Kings (non-fuel injected, 94-97) are nice for sure but seem to stay in the 6K plus range (ones I have seen anyway). Other thing I do not care for are the black painted cases and all the chrome that is standard on them. And that is one more thing I like about the FLHS, the absence of chrome. I like the natural finish on the motor and tranny and the natural finish on the aluminum parts. Eventually the clear finish over the aluminum starts to really look like crap and that means, steel wool to take that off and aluminum polish to keep the aluminum looking decent. I'm okay with that.

Coming up on 88K on the 84. Intend to use the FLHS as the long haul bike. That will give me the chance to pull the motor on the 84 and split the cases. It has only had one top end. Made the mistake with the 65 of going too far (117K) before shutting her down for the rebuild. Cost me a new set of flywheels and rods. Don't want to do that with the 84.

Guess we shall see. The seller was supposed to send some pics of the two stickers on the downtubes. He says one of them on the right (shows the VIN) is a bit rough looking. DMV and CHP can be a reall pain on out of state bikes being brought into the state (you have to have it inspected to ensure it complies). Seems stupid that even tho the VIN is on the frame as well as the motor and they their panties bunched over a stupid sticker. My 84 came out of Michagan. The emission sticker on the left downtube was a bit rough. I thought the vehicle inspection guy was going to have a heart attack the way he fretted over whether he could approve the bike (it was completely stock, right down to the mufflers). That was almost 20 years ago. Everyone says they are even worse now.

Well if you like the the front end (or your mother does!??!!) and the lack of chrome, this might be the bike for you. Once you get past those things, the price seems fair, though less is always better.

Lots of threads on the Forum about moving the battery to under the seat so you can re-claim the saddle bag space, if you would be willing to leave "stock". Something to search and read up on, seems like a reasonable upgrade to clean up the bike and make it more user friendly for long hauls.

Good luck.

What mods has the owner done to the motor? Looks like Supertrapp mufflers?? Also whats all over the right muffler, rim and tire.? Battery explode or maybe break fluid? Hard to tell from the pic..
