Default Possible FLTC purchase.

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on another Evo. This one is an older bagger. I probably would not consider either a 1986 or an FLTC but for the fact that the seller is pretty much my best and oldest friend. Like elementary school chums and best man at his wedding friends. Point is, I was there when he bought it eons ago and know the bikes full history. The bike is a babied rock solid Evo with 40K on the ticker. Other than a cam bearing, I would probably never change a thing on the bike for as long as I ever owned it. Is there anything besides the cam that is a known issue with these FLT's? Anything I would need to look out for or are there any..... yeah, those FLT's are great, but, issues? JohnnyC has one and thats pretty much what prompted me to call my buddy and bring up this issue. Its mine for 5K if I want it. Feedback please.

I cant tell you about any issues that i know of other than the cam bearing. Earlier in the year there was an article of the 440,000mi HD (in hot bike mag I believe) it was an 1986 fltc, in the article the owner had meticulous service records for the entire time he had it(he got it w, 30k and rode it til 440,000) After reading that I figured I needed to ride mine more and not worry about "what may go wrong/break" lol.

Thats a LOT of miles on any vehicle. Its funny, he offered the bike to me last year for a lot less money. Tried to sell it for quite some time with no interest what so ever, but thats par for the course on these FLT's. Then he said f-it and dumped a bunch of money in the thing, and planned to keep it. But when I called he was all about.... no problem, its yours if you want it. So I really am thinking............

I have an 87 FLHTC. I have upgraded the charging system from the stock 22 to a 32 amp. The swing are pivot shafts 3 piece. I changed mine to the one piece. For 5 grand how can you go wrong?

Heck, if I had the money I would be telling you not to buy it while trying to get his name and number out of you! I paid more for mine 2 months ago and it has more miles on it. I don't know about what might go bad with it, but yeah, it's a really good deal and I would jump on it if it were me...

Thanks guys for the responses. I guess at this point all I need to do is talk myself into another bike. Right now I have two, but neither is a touring bike. I told my buddy Rick that I would have a definitive answer for him by Monday. If I do buy the thing you can expect to see all the details here in the Evo forum.

Ugliest Harley ever built... (what did you say his name was? ;-)

Sure looks clean and you'd be doing your buddy a favor keeping his bike for him!
