I didn't know there was any cam bearing problem I thought 99 was the year for those problems
This is a Tech question. I'm not good with these. But as I understand it, Evo's suffer from cam bearing failure. I have been told that in 1977 the MOCO switched cam bearing design on the Shovelhead to save money and from that day on never again installed a cam bearing worth a crap all the way through the remainder of the Shovel run and up and through the entire Evo run. In fact, the very reason I upgraded to my EV27 camshaft was every single mechanic I have talked to said Evo's will have cam bearing failure between 30 and 50K. Now, I have read countless stories of guys going much longer without ever having an issue and plenty more that did have the issue... so I changed mine. Thats pretty much all I know

Some years don't have a full-compliment inner cam bearing and they don't give a heap of trouble usually until you tune the bike and then they give up the ghost. I think the early bikes were fine.
I personally think the problem is over-stated but its always a good idea to change it and chuck an EV-27 cam in there if its still on the stock cam...you'll be glad you did.
Only advice I can give you is to buy her. I rode one for a few days about three years ago-LOVED IT! You start poundin' road trips out with a bagger you will never go back! If you don't like it I will gladly take it off your hands!
That bike has been around long enough for most of the 'problems' and internet rumours to have come to light, so ignore them. There is also nothin' we can't fix on here! Looks almost too good to be true, so it is difficult to advise you do anything else than politely snap it up. And with the others on here who would like it, you cannot fail, even if you decide it is not for you!
Well, I am still working on the cash and logistics thing. Its a thousand miles from me. But you never know, if I blow this deal I'll let you guys know. I would love to see this board grab the bike.
My '84 has over 111k on the original cam bearing. It is a Torrington. My lifters also lasted well beyond 75k. Only changed out due to new cam. It was built during the good ole days
