I can't remember what the headlight buckets look like on the FLT but on a few FLHT models I've upgraded the headlights on I sliced the back of the bucket off until the new lamp was able to fit. Can you do that with the FLT ?

Lots of people want to confuse the FLT With the later FLTR, Tour Glide vs Road Glide. The fixed fairing looks similar from a distance so it's an easy mistake but they are different animals, especially concerning the headlight mounting. HD and aftermarket make a complete plug n play unit for the Road Glide, but the Tour Glide uses the H4467 sealed beam like early FXs and Sportsters.
Rizzo, here's the FLT mounting bucket. Easy to see why LEDs aren't in many Tour Glides.
These are pirated pics. If you look closely, the inner bucket, the part that adjusts has only a about a 2" hole in the center for the electrical plug and form fits very closely to the back of the bulb.
So, it'd take a lot of careful cutting to even get a low profile Led in there and the whole assembly will be butchered pretty bad, but do-able I guess. I gave up on the idea since saving amps was my intent and Leds pull more than the sealed beams. These assemblies are occasionally available on ebay but are usually in worse shape than these, and even the ratty ones aren't cheap.

Reason: pirated
Thought i would share my tour glide build. Not many custom ones out there due to lack of aftermarket parts. All stock parts had to be used and customized.
Started by lowering front fender on mounts, fill all extra trim and light holes, filled blinker holes on fairing, molded radio into fairing, move speakers into fairing, install led headlights with built in turn signals, reshape and tint windshield, 16" tall bars with hidden wires, rear fender extended 5", filler panels welded in, rear turn signals in filler panels, saddle bag extensions shortened 1" in length and molded into bags, custom sissy bar and mounts, mustang day tripper seat.
Still have more to put together, will keep updating if anyone is interested
I love this type of builds. If you run into any trouble finding parts, let me know. We have a team that looks for hard-to-find parts for our customers.
ok. Thanks for the info. I purchased some of sunpie leds off Amazon. They are too deep to fit- others have ground down the plastic fins on the back to make them fit.
didnt know they were hard to find to fit. I just ordered a set and they fit perfectly. Heres a link if it will let me share it...
Glad to see someone else building a Fugly, you removed those beautiful turn signals lol, I currently have a 82 Tourglide project going. Update me on a seat direction, wanting to do a solo seat but don't know what fits them, factory is the the ugliest brown touring thing made. I'm excited for you, going to keep an eye on this one, only a few have enough vision to attack a Fugly
In progress going back together
My seat is one from the newer frame, after 1996. It works with some modifications. I was able to bend my seat as it has a metal base. Im guessing if you bent a plastic or fiberglass one this far it would break. Mine is a mustang daytripper. Good for about an hour of riding at a time. Cant really help on a solo seat though, maybe someone else can say for sure

Yes you can do that....I have...it's a hack job, but nobody can see it so......well one day I'll clean it up.....and I put some Chinese daymaker clones in the 5 3/4 size....work good and look pretty sinister.....AND my charging system loves them!

Looks like they save some power on low beam from the specs.
Pleasedo let us know how bright they are (on low beam) when you get them installed. Thanks
Oh, them are better looking than mine! Ordered some! FWIW the cheapies I've got are decent at low beam....the pattern is a little different, but the FLTCU uses two bulbs so brightness is OK

i cant say what they will be like on the road but they are blinding compared to the stock sealed beams. i plugged on in and compared to the other.......no comparison. These leds are waaaay brighter
