Default Evo Oil Pan Leak

Just picked up a 94 wide glide with 12K miles. Minor oil leak from the oil pan after I ride it. Otherwise the bike is great and runs perfect. Can someone give me some input on pan gasket replacement. Any special tools needed? Looks like i can easily drop the pan between the frame rails but just looking for input on any surprises before I open a can of worms. Thanks for your help.

no special tools needed ... I've dropped the pan on an Electra Glide and had to undo the front mount and lift the motor just a little to get the pan to slide out ... not sure about a Dyna ... Factory Service is extremely helpful with any repair

FYI, you can always post here in the Dyna Section, but with some EVO specific questions, you may want to post in the EVO section HERE

FWIW, I like that Blue(s)

EDIT: Well, it was in the Dyna section BEFORE it was moved here

Oil pan leaks are seldom heard, but anything is possible.

If it is the oil pan gasket, consider using the "foamette" type gasket. They work really well and actually make the job easier because of the partition or wall in the pan that separates the trans fluid with the engine oil section. The paper gaskets are a little finicky for that area.

You might need to use a trimmed down allen wrench on a couple of the socket head bolts where they are close to the frame. Good luck with the project and nice looking bike. YD

I did that job a couple years ago when my bike blew up. Had to check the oil pan for metal. As best I can remember, you'll need a torque wrench to draw up the oil pan bolts evenly. I used an OEM gasket and gasket sealer on both sides of it. The job was pretty easy BUT the motor was out of my bike when I did it. I seem to remember getting the oil pan clear may have been a problem for some. There was a trick to it. Might be worth doing some searching for.

Thumbs up oil pan

don't know how much of a leak you have, check all the pan bolts first you might find a loose one that was my problem.

When I bought my '06, I noticed almost all the pan bolts were loose. A few of them I could turn with my fingers. I simply snugged them up,but I have checked them a few times since- no problems.
