Default Oil leak

I have a small hole on the crank case oil is leaking out

Can someone tell me what would cause oil to leak out this hole?

I think it would be obvious to the most casual observer that a threaded bolt or screw of some sort should go in that hole and would then stop what ever is leaking out of it.

You need to add a signature line on your bike year and all the letters. Your shot is so close, it could be a Wizzer. Looks like a bottom venter. That had something in it at one time. I see red Permetex RTV, so someone forgot something.

That you know of.

Look in the parts manual for your bike, Available here: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....le/lookupForm#

And see if anything ever went there, then report back. I would look but you have not provided make model etc of your bike. Good luck!

Yes, a screw belongs in there. That is where your stator plug retainer bracket is supposed to be. As others noted, always give your bikes info.

It was on a 2001 Bigdog Mastiff that I had to put a new shifter arm on for a friend

That's an allen set screw that holds the stator side of the connection in place... Take it out, clean it and use blue loctite to seal it.. Keep in mind that loctite can take up to 24 hrs to set up..
