Default 98 fxd superglide back tire spacers

I am installing a new back tire and there are 2 spacers on the outside of the rim they have a bevel on one side. Which way do they face. After cleaning them up I noticed the bevel edge. All these years later I never notice this until today. Can I put some bearing grease on the axle. Thanks

Bevel edge towards the bearing side and yes to the axle grease on the axle. Or do you mean the machined groove in the spacer?

Some use anti-seize and you will get a debate about anti-seize on the axle because the "manual says so" but think about what is in anti-seize. Do you want that near or in your roller bearings?

It looks like a beveled edge or should I say a little curve on the edge

Yes, then bevel edge against bearing. The bevel is there so the outer edge (larger diameter edge) won't touch the roller cage on the bearing, the spacer will only touch the inner race of the bearing.

The reason I asked about the grooves is, some of the spacers have a machined groove on the outside of them. The groove (if yours had them) would go away from the bearing. Don't want that groove messing/interfering with the oil seal.

Having all types of problems installing the tire back in the swing arm. I jacked up the bike took off the caliper took off the axle and done. Problems started when it's time to put the rim back on. Just installed a new back tire, cast rim, spacers are in correctly bevel towards bearings and one left in sprocket side. Seems like the swing arm sprung in and I cannot get the tire back on. Now this is not my first time doing this. I am the original owner 45,000 miles on it but ..... I never had this problem. I was thinking about getting some threaded rod and using some nuts just to spread it like1/16 of an inch. Any suggestions. Thanks

Something simple is going on that your not getting yet...been there done that. Need to sit back and think about it.

I don't think forcing/spreading the forks apart is the answer. Especially if you have not had this issue before. YD
