New sound developed
1998 Ultra
Several months ago....installed new base gaskets and head gasket. It was really quiet afterwards.
This past week....this sound developed. But....somebody might recognize this sound.
When I accelerate ....the noise is there. Back off the throttle even just a little....sound comes back.
Fyi: Bike still runs great.
Any ideas where to start

Yea....its definitely parked until its fixed.

The lifters probably have around 60,000 miles....Ill go ahead and get the OEM factory lifters, unless someone has a better company to go with.
Pushrods are SE adjustables.....engine was very quiet after I did the base base gasket and head gasket in September.
Cam bearing was replaced with the Torrington the same time as the SE pushrods were installed.
The bike does run good.....but does seem to struggle at highway speeds where it use to not. It is down on power and is noticeable 70 mph.
Ill pull the lifters probably Friday or weekend if I have time.

At 60,000 you got the life out of those lifters. Check the coating on the camshaft too to make sure it is not coming off.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the noise sounds more like the speed of a piston than valve speed.

No noise when accelerating....back off throttle and shift gears, the noise is there. Decelerate....noise.
