Default 1994 FXRT Build

Hey everyone...

So I started tearing my 94 FXR apart. Im trying to decide whether I should just keep the stock 80" and 5sp trans OR get the S&S V111 with the baker 6sp?

If I was to keep the 80" I was going to send the heads to Branch & O'Keefe to have them do their thing. Add a Mikuni carb, new pistons and SE EV27 cam. I also have an inverted Ohlins front end, Track Dynamics swingarm, Brembo Monobloc brakes(front and rear), and Ohlins piggyback shocks (14.25") for the rear...the wheels are 13 spoke 19" and 16" converted to 1" axles. BMC FXRT fairing with lowers..still need to get the saddle bags..I have a stretched tank Im going to use. Lots of stuff going on!

I also have a 1999 FXR3 with a S&S 113 Baker6, Dual disc PM brakes, Baker 9 plate clutch and 9 spoke wheels, fork brace.. This bike is insanely fast and those parts mentioned above would match up nicely to it. But that would be a lot of work swapping front ends, rear ends, and braking systems....all of which Im definitely up for..

so what do you all think? Should I just stick with the economical plan? Or go ***** out? Thanks for any advice/opinions..

All the numbers would match on the bike if that makes a difference and I do have the original tins..might use the rear fender, haven't decided yet but I don't think that matters..

Sounds like a fun project.

I did get a little confused, though: Between the '94 you're building and the '99 you've already got, is it your intention to end up with one bike or two?

Also not sure I get the idea behind adding all the hot-rod chassis parts to an FXRT.

My $0.02 goes like this: Take all the chassis and suspension stuff you've accumulated and put them on the '99. It already has the big motor and trans. Turn the '99 into your hot rod corner-carver.

Take the '94 and build it into a proper touring bike. Keep the stock bottom end on the motor, and build up the top however you want. (Personally, if I was going through all that, I'd get more cam than an EV27, bump the compression, and don't see any reason to spend money on the Mikuni when you've already got a perfectly usable Kehin.) The 6-speed would be a nice addition.

Did one of these projects years ago. Put in a 120ci motor from Ultima with an Ultima 6 speed builders kit. The bike was scary fast and a lot of fun to ride.

Sorry for the confusion! I was just kind of rambling in that original post...too many ideas flying around my head..

The '99 has:
113 S&S
Baker 6
Bake 9 plate clutch (24T comp, 37T clutch)
PM brakes
Dual disc front brakes w/ fork brace 2" over
14.25" Ohlins Blackline (from Mr. Mesner)
9 spoke wheels
14" split MX T bars
Connely's Fairing
Thunderheader
Chain final drive

The '94 current parts list is:
BMC FXRT fairing with lowers
Stretched custom tank
Ohlins Inverted forks
14.25" Ohlins Blackline (from Mr. Mesner)
Trak Dynamics swingarm
Brembo Monobloc brakes
more to come...

I think I've pretty much decided on the V111 and the baker DD6. It's really the only thing that makes sense..I thought about sending the heads to Branch O'Keefe and having them do their thing on it and maxing out the potential of the 80 Evo...then doing a major swap...take the front and rear end, then the brakes...swap that with the 99...But....I don't want to do all that. I FINALLY got the '99 dialed in (except a starter/starting issue) and I really don't want to tear it apart again.

Post some pics if you got them!

That's how my 1999 FXR3 is. Powered by that S&S 113, it gives me all the power I need to terrify myself.

Just got the frame back from powder coat...here's the trees I need to tape off and get powder coated too.

I need to convert my 13 spoke mag wheels to 1"or 25mm axles (haven't decided..I have a 25mm axle, so I might just roll with that depending in the "pain in the *** level"). So that's going to be my next project so I can get the wheels coated and get this frame rolling..
