Mine's always low on fuel.
Other than that it's all green grass and high tides.

I briefly had a 1999 FXDS-CONV…..years ago. I forgot about the saddle bag ***** that screw into the fender. If I remember right….you hook the saddle bag first, then screw the ****. I also

The windshield and saddlebags were detachable. The back rest was never detachable and it should’ve bedmate

FYI: The saddle bags from the T-Sport will retrofit to the Convertible.

Nice bike.
As mentioned above just go over and check/replace fuel lines...tires...check engine mounts....vacume line etc.
Inspect wheel bearings etc, I use mineral oil not synth in engine and primary, Redline in the gearbox.
Grab yourself a workshop manuel,, you said you owned an ironhead so you know how to work on your own rides lol, the evo will last you a lifetime as long as you look after her.

Get some wheel bearing grease (the HD stuff is well regarded around here) and some new bearing seals (your dealer will have them too).

When you pull the wheels for your new tires, pop off the old seals and pull out the bearing. Give it and the race (that's left behind in the wheel) a good cleanup and a good inspect. At 14k miles, yours are almost certainly fine. Any sign of pitting of scoring on either the race or the rollers means new bearing. (Replace the race and bearing as a set.)

Inside the wheel, you'll find a spacer and a stack of shims. Make sure those all end up where they started.

Otherwise, repack with grease and put it back together. Axle nut torque is a little more critical with this style, so be sure the threads on the axle and nut are perfectly clean and use a torque wrench.
Thanks, I'll have a look at them soon.

those bags are hens teeth so take good care of them. Keep them out of the sun when not using or not needed. They are probably due for some leather care and a little silicone on the zippers.

The windscreen has a tinted coating so careful if trying to polish out scratches. You will go thru the coating and make it look worse. Better off replacing with a new copy of the original.

use conventional oil in the crankcase. Helps with the base gasket issue. Enjoy!!
I have heard that the bags are a somewhat rare item and I plan to pull them off and replace them with something a little newer cause I dont really like the looks of them anyway. They are in very good condition but they could use a little leather conditioner.
The windscreen is ridiculously large! It looks like a freaking sail but it really does block a lot of wind. It actually extends down past the triple trees and curves back to follow the contour of the gas tank making it almost like a fairing. Its so tall that no matter how low I mount it on the forks I am still looking through it and I prefer to look over a windshield so I'll probably replace it with something a little more streamlined.

I did look at the front motor mount and it seems like it is sagging a little but its not broken. I'll probably live with it for now since the vibration isnt bad.

Congratulations! It's a beauty.
He's had the bike for sale for a long time and he even dropped his price from the original asking price. When I reached out to him the second time I spelled out why I felt my offer was a good one, listing the need to replace tires and other miscellaneous items and he thought about it for 2 days then accepted my offer. When we met to do the paper work he said he agreed with me that the tires should be replaced.
The bike is nearly spotless clean and rust free. I spent an hour or so just giving it a real good look over last night and I cant find a spot of rust anywhere on the bike. Even the fasteners and shock coil springs are rust free. The bike has definitely been taken good care of.

LOL, I was 18 years old when I bought the Ironhead and I had a lot of help getting it to run and keeping it running in the 3 or 4 years I owned it.

I agree that windscreen is huge. Works out great here in Michigan in the early and late riding season. Also does a decent job of keeping light rain off of me.

The windscreen is unobtanium from MOCO and this is the only company that makes a copy (link below). It can be ordered in custom and shortened length. I agree, I don't like looking thru the plastic either but ordered mine 2 inches shorter. I can still duck behind it in bad weather but also look over it most of the time.

Enjoy your new scooter.
