Default noob question: why is this plugged?

so after a ride yesterday i noticed a puddle of oil under my bike this morning. looks like it’s coming from this hose that’s plugged.

is this some kind of breather or overflow line? seems strange (and dangerous) to dump right below the rear tire. i searched for oil spills and all i can find are posts on spewing up to the carb. i did take the carb air cleaner cover off when i swapped out throttle/return cables.

What year is that ride? Is that an oil drain extension or custom breather reroute line missing a catch can?

Need to know what year/model bike it is, looks like a Softail. ? If so, looks like that's the (remote) oil drain for the tank. If it's a pre '93, could be the breather hose plugged.

Yeah, the plug in the end is the (guessing) giveaway. It's a factory plug for the oil drain from the tank.

Some of the options on the HD portal site are sketchy, but about the best you can do without the paper FSM. Enter your VIN on the site and it will give you available documents.

From a distance and based on information that you were working on throttle cables.
A wild guess.
Someone re-hosed the air cleaner assembly so that it would dump oil mist to ground rather than back into throttle body.
The hose was probably holding a build-up of oil mist and it dumped when you were working on throttle cables as hose route got straight enough..

Yep oil drain for chaining engine oil. You may also find it a bit of a task the first time finding transmission drain. Hose clamp may be ;lose, hose may be cracked some where.
All the oil you drain on your bike is from the tank.
You also need to lean about cleaning Tappet screen. Generally every other oil change.

So you’ve never changed the oil?
