Congrats on your new Corona antibodies,
you can use the original gear on the new cam, mark the keyway position on the original gear then press it off and install it on the new cam.

I do this with every cam change. Chased a lot of noise from cam swaps before. I have never had a issue since I started using stock gear. I used to install a lot of cams in evo’s.

I have swap gear. Run engine and wtf, still hear the same tic-tic-tic noise I measured gear on W6 and on stock. Size the same!
While assembling. After installed CAM, BREATHER VALVE, GEAR COVER, but not TAPPET GUIDE. So there I have two holes thru I can touch gears by finger.
Trying rotate cam - it secure close, and doesn't moving and not producing noise
Then trying rotate breather valve - it can moves a little, and when I swing this gear from side to side, I hear a sound - tic!
I using S&S Breather Gear 33-4250 instead of stock plastic
I'm not entirely sure what exactly is the breather valve produce sound, but nevertheless there is nothing else from

I didn't measure by gauge, but put one spacer to get the same length as old cam. I'm trying move cam in-out by fingers when box assembled, it shows around ~.040 - .070

I believe the book says up to .050" but I like. 010"-.015". Check your timing cup for wear marks.. quick and easy check..

Ok, set the end play to less than. 020"... .040-.070 is not acceptable. You need to start eliminating anything out of spec and .070"is way out..

I would also put the old breather back in to eliminate that also. Think your better off without the steel breather but thats another subject.

Checked today cam end play, gauge shows .015" I think It is good result. So I didn't change/add shims
Also putted back HD plasticky breather gear.
Run engine and I no hear bad noise like tic-tic-tic
So this bad guy produce tic-tic-tic noise - S&S Breather Gear 33-4250
I think because this happened with steel, Harley's engineers put there plastic gear.
In future, it will reassembly engine again I'll put S&S Red Breather. It not rotated, and I think not produce noise.
