Default Hotter Plug?

Hey everyone. I have a 1997 Fatboy with Edelbrock heads, mikuni carbs and a bunch of other go fast stuff. It has a restrictive exhaust that I will be replacing in the spring but for now, its fouling the plugs (front one as normal is worst). It has Champion RN12YC plugs in it now, can anyone recommend a 1 step hotter plug that will work? I think its RN14YC but before I do anything I figured I'd get some input from folks that know what they are doing. Thanks in advance.

How about leaning out the carb? In my experience, a hotter plug is a kludge to "get you home" until you can fix the problem.

Post a picture of your plugs. There are different types of fouling, with each having a different cause.

I agree with posts 2 and 3. With these high output ignitions, fouling a plug to the point of causing a misfire indicates something else wrong - like excessive oil use or carburetor issues.

I'm sure its a carb issue. I need to get a less restrictive exhaust and set the carb correctly, which I plan on doing in the spring. I was trying to get a good temp solution for a few thousand miles until I do the real work.

i think you are doing yourself and your engine a disservice following this approach

An hours time and minimal $`s could probably correct this problem

I'm most concerned with my ability to mess a carb up - I'm a PRO at that :/ .

If you never messed one up, then you never tried to fix one! That goes for anyone who ever turned a screw, self included.

Can't help you at all with a Mikuni, but there are many here who can....hang in there.

HAHA! You guys might talk me into trying to adjust it. Carbs are not like regular wrenching for me because they aren't "binary" - they are sort of like art.
