On investigation I've found a 2 inch crack in the shell, around the bottom fixing bracket.
Is this a common problem, or a one off?
It appears the complete headlamp is discontinued.....at least in the UK.
AS these are a different shape to the FLSTF style, are they available anywhere......preferably just the shell?

I reads as if your multi-decade old headlamp housing might have suffered.
It is rather thin metal so weather exposure and time might have done its thing.
Does not look to be a fancy item.
Perhaps an aftermarket assembly would be good enough from whatever source is used in UK.
