Went on a 5 day, 1550 mile road trip last week. Running 75,80,85 sometimes 90 miles per hour. 1995 Road King never missed a beat. Stock seat . Butt never got sore or tired. A real motorcycle. No fancy stuff. Damn good ride.
I'm with you...wouldn't give it second thought taking my bike on a nice long trip. It runs good, has been properly maintained, and is more than "long road trip worthy".
I am envious and wish I had the time to take a trip like that...I usually get one of those trips in every season, but this year it did not work out.

Yankee Dog. Been retired a couple of years now. Have not taken a good MC trip. New rubber front and rear. 4,400 miles on total top end rebuild .Oil and filter change. Well. I have changed it several times before this trip. RK running like a top. Perfect weather. Time to go. Texan born and bred. Dad was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. With the other boys helped build the parks at Davis Mountains and Big Bend. My 2nd time to Davis Mountains. 4th time to Big Bend. Majestic rugged beauty. Rode the river road this time. Kind of a spiritual experience. Every MC rider needs to do this at least once. Happy Trails.

Oh yeah!, I totally get it. Unfortunately, retirement is another 4-6 years away for me.
Have been doing a "yearly" road trip every year for the past 5 or 6 years with my evo. Not a lick of trouble from the bike.
Michigan has some pretty nice scenery also, especially the Upper Peninsula. Can ride and ride the back roads for miles on end with nothing but forest on both sides of you. In and out of small towns, meeting the locals (always a positive experience), occasional deer, moose, bobcat, bear etc. sightings along the way.
Even did one trip where we took the bikes on the ferry across lake Michigan, then headed north thru Wisconsin and eventually went "backwards" thru the upper peninsula. That was a nice trip.
Anyways, this year was a busy year with family commitments and did not get to do the yearly trip. Will make up for it next summer. The daughter will be graduated from college, then married in April, so I will have the time. Thinking of getting over to Northern Minnesota via the upper peninsula, but it seems like the best trips are the ones where you just get on the road and wing it. That was my last trip...just winging it with my riding buddy Crazy Mark. That was a great trip.
Bottom line, I have total faith in my evo. They are totally capable machines. It's always nice to run across another evo rider while on the road. You don't see many...always strikes up a conversation from anybody who knows harleys.
