Tapered roller bearing endplay
Setting up my tapered roller bearings on my 94 wide glide and ive come to a point where i would only be running the top hat/spacer washer,and a .004 shim. Is this normal practice? as it seems pretty darn thin to be running alone. I feel like maybe i should have the spacer cut back .032 and add a heavier .032 shim to accommodate. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I had a paper thin shim on my RK that disentegrated. I keep a shim kit around so it wasn't a big deal. Not a mechanic so my experience is with what I have.
Before my next tire change I'm gonna order some DOM tube and machine the spacers down perfect so no shims required.
I looked online but I couldn't find anyone selling oversized trim to size spacers.

There is no movement between the shim and the parts it comes in contact with, how would it disintegrate?
