Pics of first plug change on 98 Evo Low Rider. Plugs that came out were black from admitted excessive idling from previous owner. Plugs in pics have 450 miles. I took them out to have spares on the bike and was doing annual oil changes. Total miles on engine 5233.
Thanks Carl. Think I may have a jet problem or ring issue? Not trying to create a problem just looking to learn. The reddish color is something new to me.
I have never carried a spare spark plug on a vehicle, and never needed one.
Thanks Dan. Im the guy that has the tools when something breaks on the road. Not bragging, just the way I am. Grew up riding snowmobiles and occasionally a plug or two somehow got us home. That was a loooong time ago.

Just a little info from a guy with over 140,000 miles on the same EVO powered bike, you don`t need to carry a spare spark plug, it is not a 2 cycle snowmobile.
Unless you give some information about the bike those spark plugs came out of, no one can give you any insight.
Ignition system?
Model of carburetor?
Jet sizes?
Have you checked float bowl adjustment?
Use anti seize on spark plug threads, not oil.

Big Thank You Dan.
Stock ignition with stock CV carb on 98 Evo Low Rider.
Jet sizes unknown at this point. Carb was rebuilt (allegedly) by an Indy for previous owner. Ive not checked float bowl adjustment. Idle mixture screw has been changed to adjustable.
It does have the period correct SE air cleaner/mufflers. Other than ac and mufflers I believe it to be stock. Rivets were still in timing cover when I replaced the module. Used stock cam positioning sensor.
Bike starts, runs and idles fine. Mufflers pics below.
Pics are lit with work light. Camera flash washed out the tone of the tone of the soot.
Im starting to think I may need to rebuild the carb, check/verify jet sizes and float bowl adjustment to set a baseline?
