Default Primary leak

So Tonight my Softail toppled a little off its stand and rested on the floor, no damage that i can see but there was a little pink tranmission oil left on the floor. I picked it up and there doesn't appear to be anymore coming out. is this normal or should i be worried ?

Pink oil? That's redline heavy shockproof from your transmission almost for sure but your bike felt on its left, isnt it? I recommend you to open the primary inspect cover to make sure which colour is your primary oil, you can also try clean with a cloth behind the primary case and see if it impregnates from that pink oil, maybe its old oil sludge which was already there

you're right the primary oil isn't pink and yes bike fell to the left so how could this affect the tranmission?

No, it's not normal to let your bike fall off the lift! Sorry - couldn't resist that one.

The vent for the transmission is on the left side of the top cover. Depending how far it was tipped over and how long it was left unattended, fluid could easily have gotten to the fitting/hose and run out a small amount. And it takes very little fluid to make a big spot on the floor.

The right side in this photo is the primary side where you can see the vent opening.

well it wasn't on the floor for long as i was sat on it and the stand gave way so i picked it up immediately but bearing in mind the floor was wet so this could explain the 'pink' colour as i understand red transmission fluid when mixed with water goes pink and there wasn't a lot of it either so thinking maybe that's what's happened, i will be keeping my eye on it though

You were there and I wasn't and I refuse to admit how I "ran" mine off the break over stand one time

Most likely just slobbered a bit out the vent opening. Only 2 places they will normally leak - main seal or main shaft thru seal. They don't hold much and if you've not seen any on the ground before, should be OK. If it is leaking, it would be one of those seals and it'd leak all the time when riding, though hard to see. Just keep an eye on the fluid level via the dip stick (with bike straight up)

I should have asked - did it land totally on it's side or were you able to catch it?

Meaning, if it was only at a 30 - 40 degree angle, (as it the crash bar caught it before the handle bars were on the ground), then no, it shouldn't have leaked out the vent.

Not "good" but thank goodness for the bags. Yeah, with the mirror on the floor, I'll stick with my "out the vent" guess
