Road Kings are starting to become in demand in the Evo world, it does look good and it runs good that's a plus.. Couple things that are going to be susceptible to negotiating are transmission and drive belt and swing arm bushings. Other than that I would start at $6, 000.. The fact that it's carbureted is a plus, that should help in selling it...

There are" home builders" who know their stuff, there are others that don`t

A prospective buyer doesn`t know which side the seller represents

The same can also be said for more than a few professional mechanics.

A home builder who knows their stuff is most likely in the wrench business or was in the wrench business, and went to school etc. There are guys out there like that, they got out of the business mainly because there really is no money in it. Or should I say there are easier ways to make more money and not get half as dirty. But accusing the guy of being a butcher to lowball the cost of the bike is bullshit also.

I did not attend any motorcycle school, I learned under the direction of my local HD dealer when I was 16 ... helped him as he needed me and he was always there showing me how to do things ... after he passed the shop closed and I wrenched for friends and some who needed help ... pay was usually a couple beers or parts I needed ... stuck with it over the years and still help friends or someone who needs help ... pay now though is coffee with breakfast ... had an average factory job to pay the bills to live ... now retired 5 years and don't wrench or ride as much

Nice looking bike! Since you are asking for opinions; the high miles, repaint and (potentially) unknown build(er) might lose a fair number of buyers. That said, you only need to find that one buyer that loves the bike. As you don't sound like you're in a hurry, I'd wait for spring weather, list it for just over $6K and sell it for any offer over $5K.

The EVO bikes are starting to get popular, so it may be worth more than you think. And if you can wait a few more years I think the value will only go up. Look at the price of a nice Shovelhead these days.

Nice looking bike.
