Hey Guys,
Im looking to replace my pitted/corroded rocker covers. I assume I would need to replace the gasket underneath as well? What about the lower rocker gasket? Can I reuse the hardware? There are no oil leaks. Strictly cosmetic. Looks like there are a few oem covers on eBay. Im not looking to go with aftermarket ones. Let me know your thoughts. Here are some pics:
get a good rocker box gasket set and change the umbrella valves while you are in there .. once you remove the top cover the middle section will be loose also ... the bottom section is attached to the head ... you don't need to remove them unless you want to replace the gaskets under them ... OEM or James gaskets are good sets
Do you remember the cost/shipping? Trying to weigh repairing vs replacing. I also have an S&S air cleaner cover & samson exhaust heat shields that could use a re chrome.
Browns is the benchmark for plating motorcycle parts for sure. But once upon a time (last time I checked, 15 yrs ago) they didn't do public work. That is, shop had to be a dealer for them and send your stuff thru that dealer. They may have changed.
Otherwise, I've actually seen some of their work and it was awesome. Downside was, the price of their plating was exactly the OEM retail price of the items I was considering at the time. OUCH. Crash bars, rocker covers, luggage rack, etc. Needless to say, I'm still running my original stuff...
