Default Carb install

I'm installing a new carb (stock) on my 93 Fatboy. The 3 screws/bolts that mount the air cleaner backplate to the carb seem to have different threads. Seems like i'd be forcing them in. What gives? Not smart enough to attach pictures.

Is this a stock air cleaner backing plate and screws?

Try screwing the screws into the carb without the backing plate to see if you have the incorrect screws or just having some difficulty with the backing plate and carb.

1/4 x 20 for my 1994. Is this a factory carb (keihin) or a reproduction? If a reproduction, all bets are off on the thread size. That might be the issue or could be a build up of loctite...

Loctite (blue) is your friend here, don't want one of those bolts working loose and getting sucked into the carb/engine. It has happened before (posted on this forum).

I agree with @Yankee Dog .
I recently installed a new cover on my carb re-using the same screws as the previous one and it felt like they were all X threaded.
I use blue loctite on a lot of fasteners and it can gum up threads.

Never a good practice but I'm glad it worked out for you.
