I have a 94 fxr with ev27, ultima ignition, wiseco 10:1, thunderheader and hsr42. My bike runs great, but I have issues with hot starts and some pinging. I understand what a cam does and how, but my knowledge of them is pretty basic. I understand the ev27 isn’t so great with higher compression.
Is there a cam that would better fit what I have? I’ve been considering a woods w6. Would that be worth the swap or too similar? I typically ride solo and like to go fast. The ev27 fits my riding pretty well, but I’m willing to make changes.
I’ve got an ev13 in mine with similar setup which has nice pull right from idle.I use premium gas and the Ultima (recently swapped to a Dynatek) was set at #3 curve. Didn’t have a pinging problem.Did you static time it by way of the instructions?
The crane H296 is a very good bolt in and won't be too soft under 3k because your static comp if it is indeed indeed 10:1..
Sorry I made a mistake.. The H286 is a bolt in cam for stock heads. the 296 requires head work..
Also test your VOES switch for the pinging issue..
One more thing, the Ultima ignitions curves are very fast ramping you might be better off with a Dynatek 2ki ignition..

I did. It doesn’t ping all the time. I’m more concerned about the hard starts.
Most say an EV27 needs more than stock compression but who knows?...
When you say hard starting, do you mean difficult for the starter to turn it over, or turns over too long before starting? (or both) Hows the fuel mileage and did you install the Mikuni or someone else?
The 2nd questions may sound irrelevant, but I have some ideas that are or may be. But need to know those 2 answers.
** make that 3 questions. When does it spark knock (ping)? Under hard acceleration or on mild acceleration?
