No, just flattening the base of the cylinders. The factory did not originally true up the cylinder bases on the production line. So it will make a difference. Your machinist will know what to do (hopefully). There is also lapping of the cylinder bases, and this link shows what/how untrue those bases can be. L

I had them take .010 off of the base of my cylinders per the recommendation of a very experienced person on this and another forum. Also used a .030 head gasket, .020 base gasket (cometic sls and mls) and am currently using stock pushrods. No issues. I am still slightly below deck height. Read this entire threads:

I can fix almost anything but I just don't have the knowledge to make the best choice... plus I haven't ridden the bike some I'm not sure how it rides yet. that's going to be a big deciding factor on if I cam it or not. I was just kind of figuring sense I'm gunna have the bike in pieces anyways I would put them in lol
Are you saying that you just got this bike and never rode it?
If that's the case then before you plan on replacing anything you'll need to inspect it to see what you have first.. If it's the bike in you signature then there's a good chance after all these years it has been modded.. Start with a compression test and pop a pushrod cover to see if it has adjustables.. 2 very easy thing to do...

yeah I bought it 2 years ago and have been working on it sense... have had one issue after another, after another... I have not done a compression test but I have had the motor torn down to the jugs to so I know the push rods are not adjustable, and put new gaskets in everything I have taken off... the oil pump ate some teeth on on of the gears so I had to fix that. then the carb wouldn't stop leaking fuel so I replaced it with a super E, then the timing module had bad wires so I got a s&s hi-4e and a single fire ignition, then I put thunder headers on it, a new drive belt, 2 new clutches, the first was a ultima I got off a buddy that had it in his bike for under 2000 miles before deciding to go with a belt driven primary, that one didn't want to grab so I just put a barnet scorpion in it this morning, new bars, clutch cable, brake hose, throttle and idle cables to match the bars, new control switches and brake and clutch levers to match, plugs and wires, and some other small misc. stuff. as far as I know everything else is stock

EV 27 is a good cam, but I do not think is the best choice for a heavy bike, EV 13 would be better for a heavy bike, more low end, Crain Fireball 3010 is between EV 13 and EV 27

I think you need to spend some time with the service manual to learn what that actually would entail...
