Looks like the stock shoe is on backwards.

Put mine in at about 32000 miles. Has about 160K now, original shoe still looks great. Best money I ever spent on an aftermarket mechanical part.
I also run the Hayden, when I first got the bike it already had the Hayden M6 BT65 installed, but the primary was noisy and on inspection found that the internal captured spring was also broken same as the other poster. By looking at the shim plates it was obvious that the previous owner had not installed correctly and the outside plate had cocked back towards the clutch. its very important to ensure the spring base is flat and level as the lower area on the case is not (Casting slopes outwards and towards the clutch) play with the Tabs as it says in the instructions and get it spot on. I also modified mine by using some additional design features of the York Tensioner. I drilled holes diagonally either side of the top bolt and pressed in two dowels to completely capture the outside vertical plate, I also put one in the back vertical plate towards the bottom still allowing for travel and that slightly larger dowel runs in the slotted hole in the Harley back plate that's fixed to the primary with the two countersunk Phillips screws (factory).
now its absolutely bullet proof........well almost

It's a crazy world. Or maybe people just need to change things for no real reason
