I spray lightly just enough to cover and let it dry, no heavy coat. The heads are stuck good when you go to take it apart.

I was and am an Indian Head Shellac guy on base gaskets. Copper coat on the copper head gaskets on the shovel too.

On a brand new MLS gasket I wouldn't use anything. And I would stay away from the graphite gaskets, seriously. And when it comes to torquing, make sure you put oil on the studs so you got a good torque sequence on the head bolts.. At this point I would definitely do both heads...COMETIC .030"....

One thing though…S&S headgasket is .045 and you recommend the Cometic .030. Are there considerations for a change like this? Why recommend the .030? Stronger??

Honestly, it'll depend on your current static compression and what the cam intake valve close timing is. Me, I've always only used .030" head gasket in all my builds. It helps to reduce the squish which can actually help in preventing detonation.. It will increase the compression but that's not a bad thing.. Did you ever do a compression test with what you currently have?

You have to check the piston deck height, then add head gasket thickness to determine squish clearance,.030" squish clearance is about the tightest you should go for street use.
What pistons are those, I thought they were cut for angled combustion chambers, but looking again, no?

In addition to putting a drop or two of oil on the stud threads, put a little oil on the underside of the flange of the head bolt (actually a nut but what ever) where it contacts the cylinder head.

Pistons are S&S special order to size correctly after machining the jugs and heads. Eric Nichols, AMS Moto in Cleburne is one of our legit shops in DFW metroplex. Ill text him this morning regarding HG thickness for my application.

No compression test yet because I built up the motor, not Eric. I’m sure he would have done one.

Purdy when they’re new, eh??
