The bike is ‘85 FXRS. Original Petcock. I’m starting to see a thin piece of nylon type material coming out of the face. ( see picture)
Not sure what it is. Not seeing any leakage in that area. Everything works fine. I’m a little hesitant to just grab it with pliers and pull on it..🙀
If the Petcock has to be replaced , what’s a decent option for a factory motor with S&S shorty E carb, not much else performance-wise.
If anything like mine, it has a white plastic (probably nylon) inner cone with an O-ring in it. My O-ring was a black O-ring. I want to say 18mm was what I measure but don't take my word for it, it's been about 5 years ago. You also need the flat washer (two of them) for the sealing of the coupling nut and the fuel strainer inside. parts diagrams online will show the part numbers for the flat washers, but seem to recall, no part number for the O-ring.
I do know I was able to measure where the O-ring seats and "guestimate" the size. Bought a few sizes above and below what I measured also.
Just replaced the petcock on my 93 FXR.
Installed a Golan , little pricey but rebuildable and lifetime warranty.
Got it on a sale from the mfg. Excellent service and shipping.
Thanks Ranger. The Dennis Kirk website says that rebuild kit doesn’t fit my bike. I’m considering taking the advice to replace the Harley part with aftermarket. I’m surprised at the large range of prices. It seems Petcocks for my bike run from around $20.00 up to $200.00..!
For a virtually stock Evo motor, do I need a $200.00 Petcock..?
The Golan seems to be more of a midrange product. Might look at that one.
