Hey yall
recently put in a new compensator on my 86 FXWG. Got everything back together started it up and heard a terrible noise come from the primary. Opened it up and saw that the starter thrush washer had hit my primo clutch basket teeth (shown in picture). Am i missing something? Looks like it's touch where the starter arm and clutch is located. Did not do this before?
thanks!
Pull the basket and hub off of the mainshaft. I'll bet the key rolled up on the shaft and the clutch hub isn't seated on the taper of the transmission mainshaft correctly, and the keyway in the hub is probably blown out as well. I always put a little Locktite on the key and let it set up for a few hours before installing the clutch assembly so the key stays put in the keyway. Good luck.
The nut and bearing race on the shaft end does not look to be tight and it was dan\maged from a CCP wrench - could be the reason it was bottoming but not installed correctly is also in play
