The transmission sprocket on the bikes built before mid `94 had issues with the sprocket retaining nut coming loose, it was a common problem, and can cause substantial damage (it gives no warning).
If it were my bike, I would pull the inner primary and replace those old design parts with the upgraded hardware.
I appreciate all the information and perspectives - thanks everyone! Once funds allow, I’ll get parts on order and get this project going; pics will follow sometime in the spring as well.
Lots going on with this bike; have swapped out the rear fender for a bobbed fender of a Dyna Glide (paint to follow), new handlebars (back to buckhorns; has drag bars at the moment), LePera Daytona seat; not sure what else I’ll throw at it.
It’s been in the family since August of ‘92 (I have the original paperwork when my Dad bought it new), and I remember not long after he got it riding it through the neighborhood. Not a bad thrill for a 16 year old kid
Looking forward to a restomod and sharing how it comes out. It’s a pretty low mileage bike all considered; Dad bought a Road King in ‘99 and the Dyna didn’t get ridden much after that. The first 30k happened in the first 7 years, then the Road King was the bike he took on all the road trips. Most of the fun I’m dealing with is either due to me wanting to make improvements, or from deterioration from sitting for so long. I’ll be searching the forum for a lot of info, and possibly asking some interesting questions soon ….

As far as babying her more than riding her …. your ride, your choice! Hard to ride a collector’s item, but on the other hand, it was built to ride so I’m on the fence …
All sounds good but why roller rockers?? You realize the valve train will be noisier and with the low lift of the EV 13 your just throwing your money away.. They ain't cheap.. yo would be better off upgrading the ignition to Dynatek 2ki.... jm
