Wiring Problem?
98 Ultra with MM injection.
Riding to store this morning and suddenly shut down. Pulled over. Ignition fine, fuel pump primed good, would not start. 5 minutes later after multiple tries,, started right up. Went back home, checked for codes. No code
Pulled seat, battery voltage at 12.75 , connections good and clean at battery, ,ground to frame, and main fuse.
Re-checked crank position sensor connection .
I'm stumped. Fuel tank very clean. Several check- starts, all good. Ken

It's never good to throw parts at problem but intermittent one's certainly are a pain.
If you can spend some time test riding it and try to figure out a combination of speed, run time, to get an idea what might set it off to show a symptom.
Good to have a friend along if it was to leave you stranded.
There are guys here that are up on the MM injection along with Doc Hess for idea's where to look.
May not even be an MM but do try cking the spark.
If shows a weak spark that would give you a starting place.
Good Luck WP

If you look at all the other people on here that have had similar problems, that is, was running fine, then stopped, would not start, waited, started, it is almost always ignition related, and usually the pickup in the cone. The MM EFI system still uses that for ignition.
MM systems have their own problems, but typically seems to be something like idles wrong, doesn't run right, etc., and the problem is usually one of the temp senders, or the crank position sender. I am not a MM expert, just observations from people here having problems.

Thank you, guys...I do believe Dr. Hess had the right idea. Ignition related. So I will start with ignition-related parts. Check and clean all connections first, then do per-manual test procedures on coil, etc. Charging is fine. I don't believe it's fuel related. Haven't looked in the cone lately, standard motor products I put in there maybe 2000 niles ago, but will look.
And one post was correct. Intermittent problems are my most hated.
Someone mentioned run time. Warmed up about 3 minutes. Rode about a quarter mile. Plan to re-do that in the morning and see what happens on same route. And go from there.
Damn sure want to get it right...mild winter and spring predicted, want to ride. Will get back with ya'll.

The fuel pump can do it's 3 second prime and not start, crankshaft position sensor tells the injectors when to open. It's a coiled magnet sensor that can break down with heat also shutting the engine down and fire back up after cooling down. Bad thing about the MM injection is it's not very smart and struggles with recording codes.
Yes. Don't know if theStandard Motor Products one leaks the goo when it's going out or not?. Raining so can't do my test run yet.
