Angry Dealer woes

I inherited an FLHS when my brother passed last year. It came with a brand new "Harley" Front tire. The tire needed to be replaced.
I took the wheel off, grabbed the new skin, and went to my local HD dealer to have it mounted. Do you know, they refused to do the work because the tire wasn't purchased from them!
Unbelievable! I told them I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future. The local Honda dealer did it for me. Kinda makes me wish I still had my Honda....

I have encountered that myself. I don't buy from that dealer anymore. Simple.

Bring your store bought steak into a restaurant, ask them to prepare it to your liking, report back with your experience.

A shop that has a policy of only using parts they supply can control what goes onto customers bikes, and they make money selling parts, not just service.

They are, after all, in business to make money...

These days there is too much counterfeit **** out there to trust customer supplied parts.

I don`t blame them.

The date code on the tire may have something to do with the dealer's refusal to mount it. Post a pic of the code.

I've seen dealers that won't mount your tire. You can buy the same tire at like half what a dealer will try to sell it to you. They want that markup. Find an indy, they will frequently (but not always) do it. Some of them won't mount a tire you bring in too.

Personally, I have given up on getting anyone else to do my tires. I can do it myself on a piece of plywood with tire spoons faster than I can bring it someplace else to get it done. Do some yoo-toobing on it. There's got to be a million hits on motorcycle tire changing. And all the tools you need are cheap at amazon. You do need a compressor, but you need that anyway. Don't forget to change the grease in the wheel bearings and put new seals in.

The tire date wasn't the problem. They checked. Tire was only 2 years old.
