Is there a conversion kit to carb available for my 98 Ultra classic? I have read some threads on this, not that wiring savvy with the gobs of harnesses on the mm equipped bikes.
If not, will probably just sell. Ken
The easiest conversion for wiring is a Ultima ignition kit, comes with module, coil, wire harness and you use the white wire with black tracer under the right side of the fuel tank for on/off power, handle bar control switch controls that wire. Remove 10lbs off wiring plus ECM and sell the ECM on Ebay, 97 & 98 are updated ECM's
Putting the Pingle adapters in the fuel tank is the hardest part
No complete kit that I know of. I converted mine about a year ago. I used dynatek ignition parts, I havent heard great things about the ultima coils (complaints about them failing).
you still need a carb and intake, I got all that with one kit from Mikuni (Easy kit I think it was called).
the only part I was able to sell was the engine temp sensor. No interest at all in the other parts. Im EXTREMELY pleased with how it starts and runs now. If youre happy with how your bike is setup and its appearance Id encourage you to keep it and switch to carb. Nothing like the older evos
eta: the cruise control. There used to be a company selling cruise brackets for the mikuni carbs but its since been discontinued. Dont know if theres one for S&S. I fabricated some brackets to keep mine working, if youre motor is stock just get the proper original cv card from eBay or someplace
Ultima coils are real junk 30 years - use a dyna coil ——— the right ultima ignition number - 53-644K is the kick start unit and works way better in a shock or near stock app — we found dual fire works the best - single fire is a gimmick as we see it - yea BUT no go dual fire
road raced buells 95 to 98 the dyno in its math does not lie - dual fire was more linear in power on every graft - not more power used it better reason Harley used it over a 100 years
What is wrong with your FI bike to make you want to change to a carb?
carl
good question, its a pretty reliable system. In my case it couldnt keep up with engine mods. If your bike is stock you SHOULD be able to get the parts you need
They are junk but the kit comes with a wiring harness making the install easier, found out if you stick a Accel sticker on them the coil last for years.
Pinwall Cycle will post a OEM Evo carb harness on Ebay for sale sometimes, last time I checked the carb harness for a Twin Cam was still available just needing some wires changed to work but need to have some savy.

Hello, Carl. My problem is that I am unable to keep my cold idle set. Works for a couple of starts and then "disappears". All linkage to throttle body is tight, and clean. TPS set correctly. I have gone thru the setup procedure many times with the same results. Cable adjustments set correctly for full open and full close on throttle plates. Keep everything clean. Parts are getting very difficult to find also.
As a byline, tired of replacing the cam position sensor. Gone thru 2 factory and 2 Standard motor product ones, and needing to replace again. One a year, and do not put a lot of miles on the bike.
Always ride double. Always maintain correctly. Do not run over 65-70, 90% hiway/ twisties riding. 57k on bike. Trike conversion. No hard, fast riding. I'm 70, been there done that. Ken
